Head of South Kalimantan Office of Religious Affairs Ministry Dr HM Thamrin said that madrasahs (Islamic schools) temporarily implement online schooling after Ramadhan and Eid al-Fitr holidays.

He said here on Monday that all levels of madrasahs begin schooling today, May 9, 2022, but learning activities are not conducted face-to-face.

This, he said, to follow the instruction of the Director General of Islamic Education as of May 6, 2022, that schooling in madrasah after Eid holidays on May 9 to 11 will be held online.

"We in the region will of course follow and socialize the circular to all madrasahs to be implemented," Thamrin expounded.

The purpose of the circular, he said, is particularly to breakdown traffic jam after a long holidays, namely the reverse flow of Eid homecoming travelers, which South Kalimantan migh also experience.

The consideration, he said, is the synchronization between the center and the regions, because there is a possibility of some students may have not yet returned from their homecoming trip.

The main considerations are of course related to the handling of COVID-19 after the long holidays, high public mobility, and the majority of people taking Eid exodus.

It is feared, said Thamrin, if some student who traveled home might has confirmed positive for COVID-19, even without symptoms, so they can infect others.

"If they take part in face-to-face learning the spread will be faster," he said.

However, the vigilance for learning after Eid holidays is not long, ony for three days, from 9 to 11 of May 2022.

"On May 12, 2022 madrasahs are allowed to hold face-to-face learning," said Thamrin.
