Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - A team of ULM lecturers and students has carried out an international service mission in Malaysia through the International Community-Based Learning (ICBL) program in cooperation with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) residential community.

"We joined forces with the UTM multidisciplinary team and representatives of Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying to design activities that address the aspects of culture, envirornment, education, entrepreneurship and public health," said ULM Team Leader Dr Indira Fitrialini, Friday.

The service was held in FELDA Adela, Kota Tinggi, Johor, Malaysia, where majority of residents are farmers who live on oil palm plantation.

Along with residents, ULM team conducted a workshop on composting organic household waste using Effective Microorganisms (EM) solution and molasses fermentation. 

Residents learned how to convert household waste into useful fertilizer for their garden and small farms, while also rising awareness of environmentally friendly waste. 

The team then visited FELDA Adela National School and introduced the sasirangan traditional cloth from South Kalimantan to 21 students by practicing tying and dyeing. 

Free health check up was held at Wisma FELDA Tunggal attended by 100 residents. 

Community empowerment continued with a Smart Branding for Smart Businesses seminar, attended by approximately 10 participants from small business and MESMEs in FELDA Adela Village.

They gained practical insight into marketing communication and business development strategy relevant to today's digital economy.

The program concluded with creative recycling activity with approximately 50 LKTP Kledang National School (SK LKTP Kledang) students. 

Indira said the overall program of International Community-Based Learning reflects strong commitment of ULM, UTM, and FELDA community to strengthening international collaboration in education, culture, environment, entrepreneurship and public health, that also serves as a platform of cross-culture learning between Indonesia and Malaysia.

"We express out gratitude to ULM Rector and all leaders for their support of this activity. With stand with honor alongside leading universities in Malaysia in carrying out our community service," she said.
