Kotabaru commemorates Harkitnas, proclamation of Navy Division IV

Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The district government of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, commemorated the 118th National Awakening Day (Harkitnas) and the 77th anniversary of Proclamation of the Governor of Indonesian Navy Division IV, Kalimantan Defense.

Kotabaru Deputy Regent Syairi Mukhlis, who read the remarks of Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid, stated that Harkitnas was an important moment to reflect the birth of national consciousness marked by the founding of Budi Utomo in 1908.

“This year's Harkitnas theme ‘Safeguarding the National's shoots for State Sovereignity’, call on mengajak all elements of the nation to work together to safeguard the next generation as the foundation of Indonesia's future,” he stated.

The historic moment was also highlighted by the reading of the Proclamation of the Governor of Indonesian Navy Division IV, Kalimantan Defense by representative of the Kotabaru Naval Base, Ahmad Djunianto.

The text affirmed the commitment of the people of South Kalimantan to upholding independence as part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

A brief history of struggle of Indonesian Navy Division IV was also read by Nurmansyah.

The struggle of people of Kalimantan during the independence revolution was marked by guerilla tactics widely supported, ultimately culminating in the Proclamation of May 17, 1949 led by Hasan Basri.

He also emphasized the importance of remembering the struggle of the heroes of Kalimantan who defended the nation's sovereignty through Proclamation of the IV Naval Division.

The commemoration became a reminded of the importance of unity, fighting spirit, and commitment to maintaining the the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
