Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Three years of term of Mayor and Deputy Mayor Ibnu Sina and Hermansyah was marked by the action of launching a million bakul purun (traditional woven baskets made of certain grass) in traditional markets.
Mayor Ibnu Sina, during the one million bakul purun action in Teluk Dalam Market, Thursday (2/14), said this was a commitment of the City Government to reduce plastic waste. Namely by giving away bakul purun to replace the plastic bag.
According to Ibnu, the problem of garbage, including plastic waste, is one of the heavy burdens that must be overcome by the City Government.
Every day no less than 600 tons or 100 garbage trucks from the city enter the final disposal site (TPA).
If multiplied by one month, then no less than 3 thousand garbage trucks, which must be disposed of to the landfill. Of these 15 percent is plastic waste, which requires a long time to be recycled.
So, said Ibnu, serious and consistent efforts from all relevant parties are needed to reduce waste, especially plastic waste.
One of the efforts made is the action of a million bakul purum to reduce the use of plastic bags in all traditional markets in Banjarmasin.
Previously, the government has successfully implemented a ban on using plastic bags in shops and retail as well as supermarkets on the basis of Mayor's Regulation (Perwali) No. 18/2016 concerning the reduction of plastic bags.
