Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (Antaranews Kalsel) - Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) through the Director General of Waste, and Hazardous Toxic Materials (PSLB3), Wednesday (12/12), inaugurated a biomass reactor in Sungai Kupang Village, Kotabaru, South Kalimantan.
The village was chosen as the location of the pilot project in collaboration with the Institute for Research and Community Service of the University of Lambung Mangkurat (LPPM ULM).
"This is one of six biomass reactor pilot projects throughout Indonesia programmed in 2018 covering the regions of North Sumatra, Riau, South Sumatra, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and West Sulawesi," said Alan Dwi Wibowo from LPPM ULM.
The aim of this pilot project is to support the national energy security program through the development of New Renewable Energy (EBT). KLHK is building a pilot project for biomass energy supply facilities for the community in the form of biomass reactors.
The side benefit of biomass reactors, in addition to biogas energy, is producing mushrooms for consumption from oil palm empty fruit bunches and sludge as organic solid fertilizer and reducing palm oil mill waste.
The future biomass reactor can be used as a vehicle for research for ULM students and community service for ULM lecturers.
The biomass reactor was inaugurated with a capacity of 10 tons/batch. The energy produced is around 154 m3/day or equivalent to 61.6 kg of LPG and can be used by 20 families.
The potential for biomass is very large in Indonesia, estimated at 49,810 MW coming from plants and waste. One of them is oil palm empty bunches (TKKS/ Tankos) which is the largest solid waste of the palm oil industry about 27.6% - 32.5% during the process.
Present at the inauguration were Head of the Kotabaru Environmental Agency, Alan Dwi Wibowo, MT and Dr. Suyanto, MP from LPPM ULM, Head of Kelumpang Hulu Sub-District, police, Babinsa, the traditional Dayak head of Sungai Kupang, the traditional Dayak head of Kotabaru, and Manager of PT Fajar Agro Sejahtera as a supplier of biomass raw materials, Manager of PT Sinar Mas and representatives of PT Benua Lawas Lestari and the community.
