Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb) recorded the province's economy has experienced a year-on-year (yoy) growth of 4.81 percent until June 2025 amid global situation and challanges.
“In the midst of global uncertainty that shadowing its economy, South Kalimantan has shown resilience and positive achievements at a time when geopolitical tensions have not subsided, tariff wars between major countries and a global economic slowdown,” said Head of South Kalimantan DJPb Catur Ariyanto Widodo here on Tuesday.
He said economic growth reflects the resilience of the regional economy in responding to external dynamics, all at once demonstrating its success in maintaining stability and driving domestic economy activity.

“Mining and quarries sector is the main driver of economic growth with a contribution of 28.33 percent to the total Gross Regional Domestic Product (PDRB),” said Catur.
The dominant role of mining was quite strategic, he continued, because it supported export and continuous absorption of empoloyment.
In term of expenditure, the DJPb heaad saw, household consumption was still the largest component in South Kalimantan's PDRB structure with a contribution of 48.55 percent.
The high role of consumption reflects the relatively maintained purchasing power as well as optimism toward the future economic conditions.
In addition, the South Kalimantan' international trade balance was recorded a surplus of 794.4 million US dollars. However, in May 2025 on a monthly basis it decreased due to an increase in import of 56.85 percent (mtm), while export experienced a slight contraction of -1,73 percent (mtm).
“Overall, the South Kalimantan's economic performance shows a promising direction of recovery amidst the global pressure that have not subsided. It is influenced by the strengthening of leading sectors and people'e purchasing power which continues to grow,” said Catur.
