Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) was declared one of the top five most innovative universities outside Java based on Ridwan Institute's assessment through the Scimago Institutions Rankings in 2025.
"In addition to ULM, there are Ganesha University of Education (Undiksha), Syiah Kuala University (USK), Gorontalo State University (Gunud), and Sam Ratulangi University (Unsrat)," said ULM Rector Professor Ahmad Alim Bachri in Banjarmasin, Thursday.
Ridwan Institute is a research and educational institution which focuses on various fields of science and technology.
One of the main aspects of its activities is scientific journals publication, both national (accredited) and international (Scopus, DOAJ, EBSCO dan Copernicus).

Alim said Ridwan Institute assessment was based on three main indicators, namely number of patents, number ofpatent citations, and collaboration with industry.
He underlined that the assessment is proof that innovation and research collaboration are not only developing in Java, but also in other regions in Indonesia. It is also developing rapidly in Kalimantan.
ULM as a state university accredited Excellent, he said, is committed to continue to strengthen its position as a center for superior high education outside Java.
In fact, it becomes a driving force for national development through research and innovation that has real impact on improving people's welfare especially in South Kalimantan, and in Kalimantan island in general.
One of the latest evidence, ULM has succeeded in passing 161 research proposals funded by grant through the 2025 Research and Community Service Information System (BIMA) platform from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) worth Rp11.29 billion.
This achievement put ULM ranked 8th nationally, surpassing a number of well-known universities such as ITB, UPI, and Syiah Kuala University.
