Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Head of the South Kalimantan Forestry Agency Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said the agency is introducing Mount Kahung in Banjar District as a world climbing attraction.
Faisol in Banjarmasin on Monday said Mount Kahung has the charm of natural beauty and challenging. It has the potential to become a new tourist destination for who love natural challenges.
He was speaking on the basis of the results of his trip with the South Kalimantan Merah Putih expedition team on August 15 to 17 to fly the Merah Putih flag at the top of Mount Kahung. He said there is a lot of potentials that is worth selling to the world.
The expedition team, which numbered 200 people, was a combination of teams from the Forestry Agency, environmental organizations, students, other government agencies, including the Association of Wives of Civil Servants (Dharma Wanita).
Climbing routes from Banjarbaru City to the Riam Kanan reservoir. The team departed early in the morning towards the Riam Kanan hydropower pier then proceeded by motorboat to Belangian Village, the last village at the foot of the Kahung valley.
According to Hanif, as the head of the expedition team, the climbing also aims to foster the spirit of the young generation and village communities to love their homeland and the environment.
South Kalimantan, he said, is currently struggling to escape its dependence on natural resources, such as coal mines, by looking for other potentials from the agricultural and food crops sectors, livestock and tourism.
"Building natural attractions depends on how we preserve the environment," he said.
