Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine has checked and certified 2,730 tons of palm kernel expeller (PKE) worth IDR5.7 billion to be exported through Kotabaru Port to Vietnam.
“Officers of South Kalimantan Batulicin Quarantine Service Unit have checked thousands of tonnes of palm kernel expeller (PKE) at the exporter's warehouse in Sungai Durian (Kotabaru), this commodity is ready to be exported to Vietnam,” said Head of the Quarantine Sudirman in Banjarmasin, Tuesday.
Quarantine measures taken included administrative and physical checks to ensure suitability of type and quantity of commodities, ensuring that palm oil meal was free from plant pest organism (OPT) in the form of live insects.
“In addition, officers carry out fumigation on this commoditiy,” he said.

Sudirman explained that the series of inspection were carried out to guarantee the commodities to be exported met all the requirement set by the destination country.
Once the export requirements are completed and appropriate, the quarantine will isssue phytosanitary certificate (PC) as a health guarantee for the commodities sent.
Palm oil cake is a waste from palm oil processing which previously did not have high economic value. However, as technology advances, this waste is transformed into palm oil cake so that it has many benefits and selling well on the market. One of its benefits is as a raw material for making animal feed.
Based on data from the quarantine automation system (IQfast), he said, since the beginning of 2024 five shipment of palm oil kernel from South Kalimantan abroad have been recorded.
“Several destination countries for palm oil meal export include Vietnam, China, Thailand, and South Korea with a total volume of 37,844 tons worth IDR85.4 billion,” said Sudirman.
