Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan, April 22 (AntaranewsKalsel) - South Kalimantan police have arrested a man found in possession of methamphetamine (sabu-sabu) and ecstasy pills in his house here.
The suspect identified as AN (26) was picked up by police from his house at Jalan Ampera II, sub-district of West Banjarmasin, in this South Kalimantan capital on Friday.
Police found 9.62 grams of methamphetamine in 8 sachets and six ecstasy pills, police official Adj.Sr Commissioner Matsari said.
Matsari said AN has long been suspected by police of being a drug dealer in the city.
Police believed AN is only a member of a drug ring operating in Banjarmasin, he said, adding police hope the arrest of the suspect could lead police to other members of the gang.
Earlier this month, police nabbed seven suspects including a Vietnamese, on the charge of drug trafficking.
Police confiscated 6.5 kilograms of methamphetamine from the seven suspects, East Java police spokesman Adj. Sr Commission Teddy Suhendyawan said in the East Java capital of Surabaya.
The seven were arrested in cooperation with the Juanda airport Customs office.
RY, the first suspect arrested, told his investigators he brought the around 3 kilograms of the drug from Malaysian to be sold in Surabaya.
The seven suspects including the Vietnamese were the member of an international syndicate. The Vietnamese, a woman, was found in possession of 1,175 grams of methamphetamine.
The other five tried to smuggle drugs by sea into Indonesia via Batam, police said.
Methamphetamine has been smuggled into the country mainly from Malaysia and China. (AS/a014)
