Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Banjarmasin city government is starting to develop life in a densely populated environment as part of river cruising tourism.
"Several densely populated areas have potential as an attractive tourist destination, which we try to dig and sell," said Head of Culture and Tourism Agency Ikhsan Alhak at City Hall on Thursday.
Banjarmasin in addition to having a beautiful natural attraction and tourist siring (river embankment) of Martapura River, also have other uniqueness of community life in densely populated areas on the riverside.
He said this as a "slum tourism" where many foreign tourists like that kind of atmosphere.
"It'll be unique walking to densely populated settlements, only through a footbridge, there must be exotic value, especially those who like it usually foreign tourists," said Ikhsan.
As in the capital city of Jakarta, he said, there is another side of the metropolis that the tourists love, namely wandering to the slums to see the cultural and social communities. This becomes a story that has its own impression.
According to him, a region that becomes a tourist destination will impact on economic development, this can be a great benefit for the community.
"Well this will be passed on to the community's own support how it can be realized, therefore the tourism awareness group (pokdarwis) must play it role," he explained.
The city government has inaugurated about 15 pokdarwis, the goal is to enhance tourism which is now the mainstay of the regional economic drive, besides as a service and trade city.
