Rantau, S Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The Ministry of Agriculture is targeting Tapin District in 2018 to plant rice for 86,535 hectares in all sub-districts.
"The Ministry of Agriculture most extensive agricultural land target is in the Central Tapin and South Tapin," said Acting Head of Agriculture Agency Wagimin in his office on Thursday (18/1).
The planting area in Central Tapin in the 2017 to 2018 period is 19,325 hectares, with 96,383 tons of production, while for South Tapin 15,405 hectares with a total production of 76,832 tons.
"The production in the two subdistricts is also very large that is Central Tapin 96,383 tons, while South Tapin 76,832 tons," said Wagimin again.
For Binuang sub-district the target is 4,120 hectares, Bungur3,126 hectares, Piani 1,895 hectares, Lokpaikat 2,887 hectares.
Wagimin continued, North Tapin 4.136 hectare, Bakarangan 7.082 hectare, South Candi Laras 11,890 hectares, North Candi Laras 14,077 hectares, Hatungun 1,547 hectares and Babaris 304 hectares.
"So all subdistricts are targeted (to plant rice) 86,535 hectares with a production of 410,668 tons during this year," he said.
Some of the subdistricts have two to three growing season, such as Bungur, South Tapin, and Lokpaikat.
"It is all to accelerate the harvest, in order to meet the targets set by the Ministry of Agriculture," said Wagimin.
Tapin is one of the areas with abundant natural resources, such as coal mines and extensive oil palm plantations. The district is also a food barn area for South Kalimantan and national.
