Banjarbaru (ANTARA) - The Provincial Government of South Kalimantan, through its priority program the Integrated Duck System for Swamp and Dry land (known as Siti Hawa Lari), has successfully increased the duck population to 3.3 million.
Head of Animal Husbandry of the South Kalimantan Plantation and Livestock Office Edi Santoso here on Tuesday said the program has shown a positive trend in duck farming by 2025.
"We are optimistic that this program will further boost duck farming in our province," he said.

Data from 2024 showed that through this program Alabio duck population in Hulu Sungai Utara District reached 3.2 million, and by 2025 increased to 3.3 million.
According to Edi, the focus of developing Alabio duck germplasm livestock sector through Siti Hawa Lari program is to form 700 local duck farmer clusters.
"Hundreds of duck farming clusters are located in all districts and cities (in the province)," he said.
The provincial government provides assistance to farmers, including seeds, feed, and pens.

In 2026, the government explores cooperation with private and oil palm plantation to help increase duck farming in the province.
"So, the fund doesn't just come from the regional (APBD) and central budget (APBN), but also from investors or private companies in South Kalimantan," he said.
By advancing duck farming sector, he explained, the province's demand for duck meat can be met and even send to other regions.
"It is hoped that duck farming can be a major pillar of the people's economy in the province," he said.
