Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan Trade Office (Disdag Kalsel) recorded an increase in the province's natural rubber export volume and value in March-April 2025 amid ongoing trade wars and tariffs.
Head of the office Sulkan in Banjarmasin on Wednesday (June 11, 2025) said the natural rubber export volume reach 4,943 tons with a value of 9,856,865 US dollars in March 2025.
"The figure then jumped sharply in April to 6,948 tons with a value reaching 14,016,184 US dollars," he said.
Sulkan acknowledged that the natural rubber export in south Kalimantan have increased significantly in March-April 2025.
The increase in demand came from various export destination countries, such as Japan, China, Mexico, Germany, Canada, and India as the largest contributors among 17 destination countries.
"The increase means that rubber productivity in South Kalimantan and demand have increased. But the dominant factor is that increasing demand can be met," Sulkan pointed out.
Even though the export of natural rubber has increased, Sulkan acknowledged that the value and volume of several other leading commodities have decreased, such as palm oil products, wood, rattan, fisheries, and mining products.
Coal mining product, for instance, although there was an increase in demand volume from 11,299,531 tons in March to 11,485,488 tons in April, but the export value decreased.
"From 657,686,562 US dollar in March, the value of coal export fell to 636,968,289 US dollar in April 2025," he said.
The fluctuating condition caused the total value of South Kalimantan export to decline to 765,035,535 US dollars in April from previously 800,186,179 US dollars in March 2025.
Sulkan said this phenomenon shows that diversification of export products is very important and necessary to maintain market stability amidst the global economic uncertainty.
