Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Regent of Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, H Muhammad Rusli held an audiance with the Ministry of Environment (KLH) related to his government's commitment resolve waste problems.
The Regent expressed his government commitment to build a waste management system and as a proactive step held an audiance with the ministry accompanied by Head of Kotabaru Environment Office.
“We in Kotabaru are committed to building structured and sustainable waste management system. Through this audience we hope to receive direction and support from the Ministry to optimize environmental management in our region,” he said as reported on Friday.

The Regent's seriousness in managing waste was welcomed by Environment Minister Dr. Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, who received him with his staff at his office in Jakarta.
Regarding waste management, the Minister provided direction that strong synergy is needed starting from district, sub-district, village and urban village government, as well as all levels of society.
Encourage public awareness to protect environment by sorting waste independently, starting at home, at least into organic and inorganik.
It will bring a big impact if people aware to independently manage waste and proatively sorting it. Public awareness can be built and budget expenditure will be more efficient.
The Minister also asked the Regent to immediately forward the results of audience and coordinate with relevant government agencies (SKPDs) to prepare roadmap and concrete actions, including action plan for Jumat Bersih (Friday Clean) and forming environmental task force to handle "wild waste" at village and urban village level.
