Prabowo, Anwar hold three-hour talks on geopolitics

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a three-hour meeting in Jakarta on Friday, combining Eid al-Fitr goodwill talks with discussions on geopolitical dynamics and global strategic issues, the Cabinet Secretariat said.

“The meeting lasted about three hours, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time. President Prabowo then accompanied Prime Minister Anwar in the same car to Halim airport,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in a statement.

Teddy said the talks at Merdeka Palace were warm and reflected the close personal ties between the two leaders.

“The atmosphere was cordial. In the friendly exchange, they shared Eid greetings while discussing geopolitical developments in West Asia and various strategic issues of mutual concern,” he said.

He added that the three-hour duration underscored the depth of dialogue between the leaders as they responded to an evolving global landscape.

The personal rapport between Prabowo and Anwar was also evident at the end of the meeting, including when they departed the palace together in the same vehicle.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain bilateral communication and coordination amid increasingly complex global geopolitical challenges.

Anwar’s visit to Jakarta also reaffirmed the close ties between Indonesia and Malaysia, both at the state level and between their leaders.

The government views such intensive dialogue as essential to strengthening strategic cooperation and aligning positions on key regional and global issues.

The talks come as Southeast Asian nations seek to navigate heightened uncertainty in global markets, supply chains and energy security, driven in part by tensions in West Asia.

Indonesia and Malaysia have in recent years sought to deepen cooperation across trade, investment and regional diplomacy, positioning themselves as key voices within ASEAN.
