Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Kotabaru Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) urged residents in "Bumi Saijaan" (the district's nickname) to stay vigilant of the impact of extreme weather which potentially occurs in a sudden.
"Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunder often coming suddenly, can be dangerous. So people must remain alert," said Head of Kotabaru Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Hendra Indrayana.
Extreme weather is not only on land. This condition also occurs in the sea and coastal areas, where stong winds can cause high sea waves.
"Extreme weather is very dangerous for fishermen when fishing at sea," he warned.
He appealed to fishermen, when going out to sea to catch fish to bring friend, not to be alone, because it is quite dangerous.
On land, heavy rainfall and strong winds can cause trees to fall, and can damage people's houses. Especially people who live in the highlands and coasts.
He said recently there was torrential rain accompanied by strong winds in Kotabaru urban area, some trees fell at several points.
"Alhamdulillah (Thank God), all trees fallen in the parking area and roadside could be handled, so they did not cause damage and disrupted traffic flow," he expounded.
