Martapura, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - The government of Banjar District, South Kalimantan, is assisting millennial farmers to work in agriculture by utilizing land while increasing rice production for the first time.
"Banjar government is ready to realize regeneration of farmers, one of which is by assisting millennial farmers to keep on working in agriculture," said Regent Saidi Mansyur in Martapura, Wednesday (September 18, 2024) when opening advanced financial literation of Youth Enterpreneurship and Employment Support Services (YESS) program for youth capacity building.
Hundreds of participants, who were millennial farmers, attended the activities to gain knowledge so they can develop agricultural business.
"The more reliable and competent farmers are, the more the agricultural sector will surge, so it becomes the most effective solution to regenerate farmers by fostgering youth interest in agriculture," said the Regent.

Saidi was grateful that Banjar is the location of YESS program, and hopes that through this program Banjar government could empower young generation in agriculture so they are more innovative and become agents of change to push agricultural productivity.
"Moreover, they are supported by technological advances, so that through innovation and modern agricultural application young farmers can contribute to increasing production and productivity," said Saidi.
Head of Banjar Agriculture Office Warsita said that 200 out of 900 young farmers attended the training as part of the 2024 YESS programs.
"All participants receive both basic and advanced training such as Business Motivation Pathways, Start Up, Business Proposal, Financial Literacy and Advance Training," he said.
As a stimulus for young people, he said, they were given competitive grant to develop farming business into agribusinesss that is profitable and brings big benefits.
"Another follow-up activity for young people is apprenticeship program abroad, so they obtain knowledge. The plan is to send 12 farmers to Taiwan in November 2024," said Warsita.
