Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Community Development Council of Regional Leadership Council (DPW) Muhammadiyah South Kalimantan encourages equal employment opportunities for persons with disabilities considering that so far only few parties provide the opportunity for them to work formally.
Chairman of the Council for Community Empowerment DPW Muhammadiyah H Hesly Junianto in a seminar on Equal Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities at the University of Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin on Saturday said this condition should be the concern of all parties.
"We must encourage the confidence of all citizens with disabilities. Now our organization has started to promote this," he said in a seminar at the Rakerwil (working meeting) of Community Empowerment Council of Muhammadiyah South Kalimantan.
According to him, Muhammadiyah branch has followed it up by providing guidance for people with disabilities, such as encouraging them to continue formal education as high as possible and provide creativity so that they can live independently.
"We will seek to hold the government and educational institutions and creativity training institutions to the success of this program," said Hesly.
Based on data from the Regional Government in 2009, he said, there are more than 19 thousand citizens with disabilities in this area, but only about 10 percent go to formal education equivalent to high school.
"Lack of education of citizens with disabilities is very concerned, while they have the same rights to get education. Why it happen we should together find a solution," said Hesly.
One of the administrator of Muhammadiyah Community Empowerment Council for Disability Division Arni Surwanti told how her disability can took education until she was trusted to be a lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
