Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Gadjah Mada University's (UGM) Gasbadra Elins Research Club team unveiled on Thursday that it was able to utilize 57.42 percent of local components for developing its prototype of electric motorcycle.
"The local components, used for developing the prototype since 2022, have exceeded 50 percent of the government's local content requirement," the team's engineer, Dhamar Gumilang, remarked.
To meet the government's required percentage, the team members continue to conduct research on various aspects of an electric motorbike, including body parts, power train, battery pack, power distribution, and block controller.
Their efforts to develop several local components through research are assisted by the teaching staff of the university's Department of Computer Sciences and Electronics and state-owned electricity company PLN, he stated.

"We have completed a battery management system on the battery pack with overcurrent, overvoltage, and short circuit protection features," he explained.
Regarding the prototype's mileage, the team's member, Yuta Ilham, said it is almost the same as that of electric motorcycles of similar type that have been available in the market.
According to Ilham, the team's electric motorbike applies eco and sport modes. If the bike is on eco mode, it is estimated to be able to travel 40 km in a single charge, while if it is on the sport mode, it can travel 30 km.
