Rantau, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Tapin District's Agriculture Office sets a target for farmers in Asam Randah Village, Hatungun Sub-district, to harvest as many as 92 tons red ginger this year.
"We have just harvested 68 tons," said Head of Tapin Agriculture Office Triasmoro in Rantau, Wednesday.
The district has so far developed red ginger covering an area of 62.5 hectares.
Especially in Asam Randah Village, three types of gingers are being developed, white ginger, emprit, and red ginger. Planted from September-October, the yield for each season reaching 15–18 tons per hectare.

Tapin is not only trading raw products, it also seriusly produces and marketing derivative products in the form of packed red ginger.
Last March, the central government has provided an assistance in the form of production house from the Directorate General of Horticulture of the Ministry of Agriculture. It consdidered to provide benefits for post-harvest product processing.
”Very beneficial, because it helps in processing of ginger derivative products, upgrading quality and selling price,” said Chair of Baru Muncul Farmers Group Hartanto.
“The white ginger is marketing to East Kalimantan, while the red ginger part of it to procure seeds and the other for derivativce products,” he said.
