Penajam, East Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) will renovate schools in Sepaku Sub-district, North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan Province, which has been designated as the Nusantara National Capital (IKN).
"We will renovate all schools around the IKN area," PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono noted in a statement in Penajam, East Kalimantan, Monday.
The minister affirmed that renovation of schools was being conducted in Sepaku Sub-district to ensure a balance between the construction of IKN and educational infrastructure to meet the needs of the local community.
The relocation and development of IKN Nusantara raise hopes for the development of education, especially in Sepaku Sub-district, which means school infrastructure facilities can also be evenly distributed.
Improving school infrastructure is deemed crucial in dealing with moving the new capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan.
According to Hadimuljono, the Ministry of PUPR has planned to conduct renovations of all schools located in Sepaku Sub-district, as the core area of the new IKN Indonesia.
"In the initial stage, school renovation is prioritized in the Sepaku District area, as it is the location for the transfer and construction of IKN," he stated.
The Ministry of PUPR has not prioritized the schools' renovations in other sub-districts yet in Penajam Paser District and Kutai Kartanegara District as the main area of the new IKN Indonesia.
The ministry will also conduct renovations of other public facilities already existing in Sepaku Sub-district in accordance with the construction of IKN Nusantara.
"Other existing public facilities, such as health facilities and markets, will be revamped for equitable development," Hadimuljono remarked.
The transfer of the IKN Nusantara is expected to have a positive impact on the distribution of development in the new IKN Indonesia.
