Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The rescue team of Sahabat Bekantan Indonesia (SBI) has again rescued bekantan or proboscis (Nasalis larvatus) drifteded on the Barito River, Marabahan, South Kalimantan.
The rescue conducted on Friday (25/12) together with people who care about the safety of these endangered species, said SBI advisor Ferry Husien to AntaranewsKalsel in Banjarmasin on Saturday.
He said the SBI had been heard from rural communities about bekantan drifting on the Barito River, then SBI team led by its chairman Amalia Rezeki slid to the scene.
After the rescue by the people and SBI, SBI took medical action by injecting anesthetic to help bekantan not traumatized after evacuated in the middle of the river.
Male proboscis monkey, estimated seven-year-old was named David, is the tenth bekantan successfully evacuated by SBI rescue teams throughout 2015.
