Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The City Government of Banjarmasin is preparing a competition to preserve rivers in a bid to create clean and beautiful rivers that function properly.
Naniek from the Environment (LH) Agency said 30 river custodians to take part in the competition, which means 30 rivers will involve. The custodians are people who care for rivers that spread across five sub-districts in the city.
She said the contestants must be accompanied by the sub-district officer, so there is a combination of community and government in this preservation efforts.
A member of the jury Hasan Z (popularly known as Uncle Anum) said that the 2022 river preserving competition aims at increasing public participation in taking care of and preserving the beauty of rivers in the city, which is well-known as the city of a thousand rivers.
He hopes the community maintenance of the river to continue after the race is over.
That's why the competition is not just to keep the river clean, but how to keep the river clean for a long time, so that what must be addressed is the attitude of the community that grows from the feeling of loving the river.
Thus, the river protected from waste, the river is maintained as the lifeblood of life, a beautiful environment, a provider of clean water, means of transportation, and most importantly how the river becomes an economic magnet if it is managed as a tourist attraction.
