Pelaihari, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Tanah Laut District Government through the Youth and Sports Office (Dispora) held the 2021 Tanah Laut Silat Culture Festival.
A total of 119 fighters from 12 silat schools (perguruan) from five sub-districs, namely Pelaihari, Bajuin, Kurau, Bumi Makmur, and Bati-Bati, took part in the festival.
They competed in 37 competition categories. They were divided into nine teenager teams, six adult teams, 11 teenage pairs, and 11 adult pairs.
After officially opening the festival on Monday (October 25, 2021), Tanah Laut Regent HM Sukamta said that silat culture, such as kuntau, needs to be preserved.
"Don't let us not know Kuntau martial arts anymore in the future. Let's continue to make it a culture that has a very high value," he said.

Acting Head of Youth and Sports Agency Rudi Imtihansyah said that the festival is to foster the spirit of sport, in order to develop the spirit of sportsmanship and to realize a sense of responsibility for the advancement of the sports world, so as to achieve proud achievements.
"This activity has a positive impact on the community to love sports more and to preserve kuntau or pencak silat," said Rudi.
