Banjarmasin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The implementation of the level 4 public activity restriction (PPKM) in the City of Banjarmasin has been extended for another two weeks from August 24 to September 6, 2021.
"This is the central government decision to extend the level 4 PPKM in Banjarmasin City for another two weeks," said Mayor H Ibnu Sina at City Hall, Monday.
The level 4 PPKM in the city has been carried out for four weeks from July 26 to August 23, 2021, and is now being extended again until September 6.
According to Ibnu Sina, the city government carried out the central government's instruction in the handling of COVID-19. So, the level 4 restriction has to be carried out again. This is in accordance with the evaluation conducted by the central government.
He admitted that so far the daily cases of COVID-19 in the city are still at level 4. Even though the other two categories of assessment, namely the weekly COVID-19 cases has been at level 3 and Bed Occupancy Rate (BOR) at level 2.
"But the overall judgment is the central government. I can't take other policies, because the status of PPKM is in accordance with the instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs," he pointed out.
Ibnu also acknowledged that the economic condition of the city whose nickname The City of Thousand Rivers is now in a slump. He hopes that there will be an exception or relaxation for the economic sector.
"The case has to go down anyway. But the risk of the provincial capital is indeed more than others. Mobility is definitely high. We will conduct an evaluation this afternoon," he said.
Ibnu also hinted that the tightening of checkpoints at the border or city entrance by the joint force will continue. "This is bitter, but we have to do it. People should be able to understand," he said.
