Batulicin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The government of Tanah Bumbu has started administering a third COVID-19 shot as a booster to 360 health workers using the American Moderna vaccine.
"The third vaccine administered to all health workers is the Moderna," said Tanah Bumbu Regent H. Zairullah Azhar through the Head of Health Agency Setia Budi in Batulicin, Saturday.
He said the government provides additional protection to health workers who face a high risk of COVID-19 infection on a daily basis.
The administering of the third vaccine for health workers has received a recommendation from the National Immunization Expert Advisory committee (ITAGI) based on the results of a study submitted to the Ministry of Health through a letter No.71/ITAGI/Adm/VII/2021 dated July 8, 2021.

In addition as a third dose of vaccination for health workers, the Ministry has also issued a policy that the Moderna vaccine is given to participants who have never received the COVID-19 vaccine.
"The local government has also received an explanation from the Ministry that the administration of Moderna vaccine as the third dose is only for health workers. Moderna vaccine is also intended for the public, specifically pregnant women and people who have comorbidities," he said.
The Regent really appreciated the implementation of the third vaccine administration for health workers in Tanah Bumbu.
"Hopefully, with (this) vaccination, all health workers will be (well) prepared to fight in the community to handle the COVID-19 cases in Bumi Bersujud (nickname of Tanah Bumbu)," he said.
