"Indonesian handicraft products, such as lace hats and other head coverings, are very popular with the Japanese public," the ministry's director of export development cooperation, Marolop Nainggolan, said in a statement here on Tuesday.
Other handicraft products exported to Japan in January-May this year included wooden frames valued at US$2.18 million, rattan baskets worth US$562 thousand, woven baskets made from vegetable materials worth US$435 thousand, and synthetic wigs worth $423 thousand, he informed.
To boost handicraft exports to Japan, the Directorate General of National Export Development has collaborated with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) to hold a webinar on Encouraging the Exports of Handicraft Products to the Japanese Market.
CEO of PT Kasana International Kreatif, Yoshio Yokobori, will be among the speakers at the event. Yokobori also imports Asian handicraft products for the Japanese market.
“The Ministry of Trade and JETRO hope that through this activity, handicraft business players can capture information on trends, consumers' references, regulations, and product standards. Businessmen can use this information to formulate better marketing strategies to enter the Japanese market. Of course, it is also supported by good promotions," Nainggolan said.
Indonesia routinely exports lace hats and other head coverings, synthetic wigs, false beards, eyebrows, and false eyelashes made of human hair, Nainggolan said. (INE)
