Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - Regent Arpan Arifin said the central government has allocated funds amounting to Rp1.2 trillion for the construction of Dams Pipitak Jaya in sub-district Piani, Tapin District.
"Even President Joko Widodo promised in August 2015, he himself will conduct a groundbreaking development," said Regent Tapin in Banjarmasin, Tuesday.
Regent Tapin here to attend a gathering with Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman at Mahligai Pancasila Building along with the rest of South Kalimantan regents and officials of relevant agencies.
According to the regent, the construction of this dam lasted for three years, starting in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Dams to boost rice production was estimated to irrigate about 60 thousand hectares of rice fields and plantations in the area.
Arifin said, the local government continues to seek the release of 600 hectares of land for the construction of the dam.
Currently, rice fields in the area covering 60,389 hectares with a production of dry grain rice as much as
297,948 tonnes. "It's a bumper crop," he said.
