Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The government will soon build a Pipitak Jaya dam in sub-district Pitap, Tapin, worth Rp1.2 trillion funded by the state budget to support the enhancement
of national food security.
Head of the South Kalimantan Public Works Agency Martinus here on Monday, revealing the construction of dams is financed entirely by the central government without funds "sharing" of the local government.
"It is the construction of a new dam at the new location, in addition to Pitap dam built a year ago," he said.
The plan is construction, including land acquisition financed by the central government, began a contract in November. Pipitak Jaya construction will be carried out in a "multiyear" and the project is expected to be completed in 2016.
According to Martin, the government through the Ministry of Public Works focused on building and improving the water resources and irrigation infrastructure sector in the hope it sufficient will be able to increase food production in each region to support national programs.
If the Pipitak Jaya weir completed, in addition to functioning to resist flooding in the area, it will be able to irrigate an area of 10 thousand hectares in the vicinity of the dam.
Besides weir Pipitak Jaya, the Ministry of Public Works in 2015, also focusing on three other dams, namely weirs Amandit in South Hulu Sungai (HSS), weirs Pitap in Balangan and weirs Batang Alai in Central Hulu Sungai (HST).
