"If he does hold such a point of view, the most appropriate option for the sake of goodness of this nation and state is letting him resign or sack him," the council's secretary general, Anwar Abbas, told journalists here on Wednesday.
Abbas, a prominent Muslim scholar from Muhammadiyah, Indonesia's second-largest Islamic organization after the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), affirmed that if Wahyudi were not discharged of his duties as the BPIP head, the agency would lose its credibility in the eyes of the Indonesian people.
"I do not understand and comprehend the statement of BPIP's head that religion is Pancasila's biggest foe," he remarked while suggesting that President Jokowi sack Wahyudi over his opinion that glaringly runs counter to the first principle of Pancasila -- Believe in one God.
Hence, if the BPIP head perceives religion as a foe of Pancasila, and therefore, it should be discarded, Pancasila would no longer exist and Indonesia would disintegrate, according to Anwar Abbas, currently deputy rector of Muhammadiyah's Teachers' Training College (IKIP) in Jakarta.
