Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Komunitas Jurnalis Lingkungan (Environment Journalist Community) in South Kalimantan awarded two environment activitists, Rabiatul Adawiyah from Kotabaru and Muamar, head of Jejangkit Village, Barito Kuala District, with Pena Hijau (Green Pen) award.
The 2019 Pena Hijau Award awarding, which was attended by the South Kalimantan Province Secretary Abdul Haris Makie, held at the Health Training Center Banjarbaru, Wednesday (Sept 25).
Adawiyah has dedicated herself to saving mangrove forest. The mother of two children had previously been awarded "local hero" --initiated by PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa (Tbk)-- for her hard working in garbage bank in her coastal village. She together with other women in her village innovated making syrup from mangrove.
While Muamar has been an initiator of processing river water into drinking water. He gave a a lot of help to communities in overcoming the problem of clean water.

Besides the two activists, the Pena Hijau award was also given to the Head of South Kalimantan Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Wahyuddin, for his dedication in handling of forest and land fire (karhutla), and to Head of South Kalimantan Forestry Agency Hanif Faisol Nurofiq for various greening program that made the environment of the province better.

The Province Secretary Abdul Haris Makie hoped the move of a community or individual who care about the environment sustainability to be continued to encourage to give the best in progress and sustainable environment balance.
Either government or residents, including groups, may not only play in the area of rhetoric in preserving the environment, but must be in the realm of practical or real work, he added.
The award giving followed with environment discussion with a theme "Exploring the Potential of Biodiversity in the Area of Meratus Mountains" by featuring Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Head of South Kalimantan Environment Agency Ikhlas Indar, environment observer and former Chairman of South Kalimantan chapter of the Indonesian Forum for the Environment (Walhi) Berry N Furqon, Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) researcher Sutomo, and BPBD's head Wahyuddin.
