The City Government of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, was forced to divert was disposal from Basirih final disposal site (TPA) to the Banjarbakula Regional Landfill in Banjarbaru City.
Banjarmasin Mayor H Ibnu Sina here on Tuesday said that the policy was taken to respond to the closing of TPA Basirih by the Ministry of Environment since 1 February 2025.
"Because our landfill is closed, we are forced to divert it to Regional TPA," he said.
The Banjarbakula Regional TPA, which was officiated by President Joko Widodo on February 20, 2020, is located in Cempaka Sub-district, Banjarbaru City, quite far from Banjarmasin.
The Regional TPA is part of the metropolitan city program in South Kalimantan which covers five regions, Banjarmasin City, Banjarbaru City, Banjar District, Tanah Laut District and Barito Kuala District, or abbreviated Banjarbakula.

According to Ibnu Sina, diverting waste disposal to the regional TPA causes larger operational cost.
He hopes that the sanction to close Basirih TPA on Jalan Gubernur Subardjo, South Banjarmasin, to not drag on, but there will be a solution as soon as possible.
He urged residents of the city to responsible to managing waste properly at this time, so that not much to dispose to the landfll.
The city government also strives to maximize integrated waste management sites (TPST) or TPS 3R that exist at several points.
And to maximize the role of 300 units waste banks available in the community.
One of the reasons is that waste disposal to regional landfill is limited to 105 tons, even though waste production in the Banjarmasin reaches 600 tons per day.
Previously, the Ministry of Environment had announced its planning to close 306 final disposal sites (TPA) that use the open dumping system, which hurts the environment.
"We are no longer allowed to dump waste in TPA, but to address this issue from the upstream," Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said while participating in a beach clean-up activity at Kuta Beach, Bali, on Saturday, January 4, 2025.
