As many as 3,000 athletes from universities throughout Indonesia will attend the 18th National Students Sports Week (Pomnas), which is hosted by South Kalimantan government and ULM, on Sunday (Nov 12, 2023).
"To date, 3,000 athletes have been confirmed, but the number could increase by the time of the opening," said Chief Executive of the 18th Pomnas Rusmin Nuryadin in Banjarmasin, Tuesday.
Pomnas opening ceremony, which is planned to take place at the courtyard of the Provincial Government Office in Banjarbaru, will be opened by Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo or Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Anwar Makarim.
"The Pomnas opening plan has been reported to the President, if the head state cannot attend then he will send one of these two ministers," said Rusmin, who is also Deputy Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs at University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM).

The 18th Pomnas to be held for 11 days from November 12 to 22, 2023. Competitions taking place in five areas, Banjarmasin City, Banjarbaru City, Banjar District, Tanah Laut District, and South Hulu Sungai District.
There 204 numbers of competition from 16 sports, namely athletics, rock climbing, swimming, karate, wrestling, taekwondo, tennis, kempo, chase, pencak silat, bridge, sepak takraw, futsal, badminton, basketball, and sand volleyball.
This prestigious national sport competition at university level competes for 1,397 medals for champions.
"Hopefully at this event South Kalimantan ca record better achievement than the previous Pomnas in West Sumatra which was only able to rank 22nd out of 34 provinces," said Rusmin.
