South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor led the record breaking of World Record Museum (MURI) by 10,000 "moving" silat fighters at the office yard of the Provincial Government of South Kalimantan in Banjarbaru City, Saturday.
"Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah) today we succeed in breaking the world record. Our target is 10,000, but it turn out more than 10,000 silat fighters. This is to highlight the richness of our culture,” said H Sahbirin Noor after the attraction.
As a proof of the action of breaking the world record, MURI Senior Manager Triyono presented MURI charter and received by the Governor.
The performance coincided with the commemoration of the 95th Youth Pledge Day 2023.
At the same time was the inauguration of the board of the Indonesia Pencak Silat Association (IPSI) for South Kalimantan chaired by Governor H Sahbirin Noor for the 2020-2024 term conducted by Deputy General Chairperson of the Executive Board (PB) of IPSI HM Shiddiq.

The MURI record breaking was attended by all martial arts school in the province as well as state civil apparatus (ASN) of the South Kalimantan Provincial Government.
Governor, who popularly called Uncle Birin led single moves 1 and 2 and followed enthusiastically by martial artists. Single moves 1 consisted of 7 movements and the 2 consisted of 6 movements.
Pencak silat has a variety of movement either by defending or attacking. Each movement also has different elements, such as the way you step, position, and direction of the movement target.
The governor expressed his gratitude and pride to all pencak silat schools, ASN, and employees who moved simultaneously to make this MURI record a success.
He said thousands of participants attendng the silat performance was not just a matter of numbers, but an attraction of loving banua (the country) for pencak silat as a native Indonesian martial art. Silat is recognized by UNESCO as Indonesian Intangible Culture Heritage.
“This is our appreciation for the martial art of pencak silat, in which the richness of nation's culture and civilization is engraved. Its a mean to maintaining our brotherhod, unity and integrity as a nation,” he said.
He also said that this moment is a motivation for pencak silat athletes to make a higher achievement in the future.
MURI Senior Manager Triyono said that his sides has verified the participants for the single move.
According to him, Uncle Birin has succeeded in setting a world record. “Today, MURI will award it as a world record,” he said.
