Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo together with Governor H Sahbirin Noor shooting arrows to mark the opening of the 18th National Students Sports Week (Pomnas) 2023 in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, Wednesday night.
Minister Dito expressed his gratitude for the support of South Kalimantan Governor for the implementation of the Pomnas to run well.
“I received information that the Governor's assistance was very large. Thank you, Governor of South Kalimantan for supporting this 18th Pomnas. This has a good economic impact,” he said.
Dito also commended the addition of sports from 14 to 16. The additional two sports are silat martial arts and wrestling.
According to Youth and Sports Minister, sport achievement for students is an important thing that must be achieved, because they have two advantages, the golden age to make achievement and reasoning power to solve problems.
To the students compete, he advised them to have courage and uphold the values of sportmanship.
He hopes the public universities to provide incentives for the students who excel in sports.
Governor of South Kalimantan, who is popular with his nick name Uncle Birin, welcomed all participants of the 18th Pomnas in 2023.
“Hopefully the arrival of all contingent will be in happy, joyful, and safe atmosphere,” he said.
Uncle Birin reminded all Pomnas articipants to uphold sportmanship. “Sportmanship approaches the values of honesty, with honesty we have a capital in living our life,” he pointed out.
The Chancellor of University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) Prof Ahmad said of 16 sports being compete, there area 2,717 students from 34 provinces throughout Indonesia who competed.
The 16 sports competed, namely athletics, rock climbing, swimming, karate, wrestling, taekwondo, tennis, kempo, chase, pencak silat, bridge, sepak takraw, futsal, badminton, basketball, and sand volleyball.
Also attending were South Kalimantan DPRD Speaker Supian HK, Expert Staff of Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology for Talent Management Tatang Muttaqin, Head of South Kalimantan Education Quality Assurance Center Yuli Haryanto and other inivited guests.
