Some foreign tourists took part in the 2023 Sport Tourism Banua Triathlon Challenge which combined three sports, swimming, cycling, and running at Banua Botanical Garden, Banjarbaru City, South Kalimantan, Sunday.

“This event is to promote the tourism potential of South Kalimantan to national and foreign tourists to boost people's economy,” said Governor Sahbirin Noor here, Sunday.

He said three foreign nationalists took part in the triathlon challange among all 130 contestants. They were from England, Ireland, and Russia.

Four participants were from East Kalimantan, seven from East Java, two Central Java, four Central Sulawesi, two West Nusa Tenggara, one Banten, one Jakarta, one West Sumatra, and 104 from South Kalimantan.

“South Kalimantan continues to make improvement in developing economic potential through tourism,” he said.

Sahbirin expounded that efforts to increase tourism potential in line with local government steps to reduce dependence of income from one sector, mining.

He considered the 2023 Sport Banua Triathlon a righ step to attract the interest of national and foreign tourists to visit South Kalimantan.

The 2023 triathlon was divided into three categories. The first sprint was attended by 55 participants (swimming 750 meters, cycling 10 kilometers, running 5 km), the second standard was attended by 33 people (swimming 1,500 meters, cycling 20 km, running 10 km), and the third category relay sprint followed by 42 people divided into three people per team (swiming 750 meters, cycling 20 km, running 5 km).

The Governor hopes the tourist visits in South Kalimantan to keep increasing after the implementation of Sport Tourism Banua Triathlon Challenge 2023.

“South Kalimantan is no less great that other regions, we also have many tourist destinations, one of which is cultural and historical sites gathered in one area, the Meratus Geopark,” said Sahbirin.
