The Veterinary Center of Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, is intensifying rabies vaccination in Kalimantan Island with a target of Kalimantan's free rabies by 2030.

"In line with the target, we are ready to realize it," said Head of the Banjarbaru Veterinary Center Putut Eko Wibowo on the sidelines of World Rabies Day commemoration here, Saturday.
 
Putut said there are still cases of rabies in as many as 16 districts and cities in Kalimantan, and most of them in West Kalimantan because there are a lots of dogs.
 
Also in Central Kalimantan, especially South Barito District, which was declared an Extraordinary Occurrence (KLB) for rabies, although cases are starting to decline.
 
"The number of human death who tested positive for rabies in 2023 reached 12 due to animal bites, both dogs and cats, wild and domesticated," said Putut.

He said his sides continue striving to prevent the emergence of rabies cases through socialization and providing vaccination to both pets and wild animals.
 
"We continue to intensify socialization and vaccination with a target of 5,000 animals both through services program and related agencies and during events such as World Rabies Day," he said.
 
The commemoration of World Rabies Day at the Banjarbaru Veterinary Center office also,included vaccination for 600 animals to prevent transmission of rabies virus.
 
Putut appealed to pet owners to regularly check their animals, both for health and for related rabies checks, so that transmission does not occur.
