South Kalimantan Governor H Sahbirin Noor took to the streets to allot face masks himself to people, one of which was observed on Teluk Tiram Street, Banjarmasin City, Tuesday.
Wearing a hat and face mask making him was almost unrecognized by people when distributing free face masks to motorists to protect themselves from the impact of haze.
Governor also appealed to citizens to maintain their health during dry season, because forest and land fires made air filled with smog.
"Let's wear mask to avoid haze and ISPA,” said Uncle Birin, his nickname.

He reminded that acute respiratory infection (ISPA or ARI) cases continue to jump up due to the impact of smog and dust in drought along with El Nino phenomenon which is quite long this year.
The South Kalimantan Provincial Government continue to strive to protect people from the impact of the long dry season, one of which by providing health services.
"Distributing mask action is also being carried out by all regional government working units (SKPD) of the province," he said.
Primarily in four districts and cities, namely Banjarmasin City, Banjabaru City, Banjar District, and Barito Kuala District.
Uncle Birin said a massive action to prevent forest and land fires is need to anticipate so that haze does not get worse.
He urged all parties to act to overcome and prevent forest and land fire from spreading in the province, not only Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), police (Polri), military (TNI), and firefighter volunteers.
Governor said everyone must move and participate in dealing with this disaster, so that the haze will end as soon as possible.
