Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The South Kalimantan National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) embraces a number of boarding schools or pesantren in the local area to work together to rehabilitate drug addicts through religious channels.


"Rehabilitation is not only done by way of medical, social and traditional media, but also through religious activities. So, we went to boarding schools," said BNNP South Kalimantan Chief Kombes Arnowo in Banjarmasin, Friday.

He said that by embracing the boarding school, then later on the rehabilitation of drug addicts through medical also going through a religious.

Some pesantren already visited by BNNP were scattered in the district of Batola, Gambut Sub-distrik, Lokbaintan Martapura, Banjarbaru and Kandangan district.

In addition, BNNP already embracing some components of society with the aim to provide training for ex-user as post-rehab so that they have skills.

Meanwhile, Head of South Kalimantan Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs HM Thambrin acknowledged that BNNP and a number of pesantren in the province have agreed a cooperation.

"We've done MOU with BNNP that pesantrens as well as other components play role in rehabilitation efforts," he said.

To note, in 2015 there were about 1,200 drug users who have been rehabilitated by BNNP. Some underwent inpatient rehabilitation and others were outpatient.

BNNP targeted to rehabilite about 1,500 drug addicts in South Kalimantan in 2016.
