Deputy Regent of South Hulu Sungai (HSS) Syamsuri Arsyad together with the district's board of the Indonesian Cancer Foundation (YKI) commemorated World Cancer Day at the courtyard of VIP treatment building of the Brigjend H. Hasan Basry Hospital in Kandangan.

He said the World Cancer Day commemoration could be an effort to promote cancer research, prevention, a better treatment of patients, awareness, and encourage all parties to be together to fight cancer.

“I hope through this it will raise awareness and concern of people to cancer. At the same time encouraging prevention, detection, and medication, because cancer can be cured as long as it's not too late and right in handling,” he remarked, Friday (February 4, 2022).

He thanked the Brigjend H. Hasan Basry Hospital, especially doctors, nurses, and all who involve in cancer patients handling.

He expected YKI to continue to provide dissemination, workshop, and other activities, as it has a strategic role in dealing with cancer in term of promotion, prevention, and support, in order cancer patients in HSS can be reduced and not to increase.

Deputy Regent together with Chair of HSS chapter of YKI  Srie Astuti Syamsuri Arsyad, and Vice Director of Brigjend H. Hasan Basry Hospital handed over gifts to representative of cancer survivors. Then they released baloons and two birds.

Meanwhile, one of patients fighting against cancer, Khusnul Khotimah, invited all cancer patients to join hands, motivate each other, and not to complain about the situation which will only make things worse.

“We have to spirit up, think positively, and be happy. Don't judge that life has stopped and everything destoryed. The important thing is that we have to keep our spirit up and able to be useful for other people and to motivate other people out there,” she said.

In Banua Anam (the six districts of upstream area) it is recorded there were 26 people battling cancer.

Also attending the commemoration were branch managers of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), Bank Kalsel, BRI, BNI, and cancer survivors.
