Banjarbaru Mayor H M Aditya Mufti Ariffin said that his government is ready to comply with the central government's decision to extend the implementation of public activity restriction (PPKM) starting August 10 to 23, 2021.

"We and Forkopimda (the city leadership forum) have communicated and coordinated for the continuation of PPKM level 4 and are ready for the extension for August 10-23, 2021," he said in Banjarbaru, Monday night. 

He pointed out that the city government understands the difficulties faced by the community with the restriction of public activity that they cannot run their daily business smoothly.

"We understand the difficulties faced by the public due to the impact of PPKM. We ask for the understanding and cooperation of all elements to carry out the government's decision," he remarked. 

He appealed to all components of the community to obey and realize the importance of strict health protocols so that the level PPKM that is now being applied to be dropped in the future.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto in Jakarta, Monday, announced that the government would extend the implementation of PPKM outside Java and Bali for two weeks, from August 10 to 23, 2021.

According to data published by the central government, Banjarbaru is one of the cities in South Kalimantan and 45 other cities in Indonesia affected by the extension of PPKM level 4. 

Meanwhile, the transmission rate of COVID-19 in Banjarbaru was quite high. According to daily data from the Health Agency, the number of confirmed positive cases reached 100, 13 recovered, and 4 people died.
