Adaro is increasingly active in promoting new entrepreneurs, especially in micro, small, and medium industry sector. Strategic steps are being taken, including through the Adaro Santri Sejahtera Program (Adaro's Prosperous Santri Program/PASS).
“South Kalimantan has a lot of Islamic boarding schools (ponpes) and their students (santri). We see this a great potential. We believe, santri as part of the young generation will be able to become the agents of strategic changes in building the nation and Indonesia's economy in the future,” said PT Adaro Energy's CSR Divison Head Okty Damayanti.
Ponpes are religious-based educational institutions that have been known to be independent, as well as the agent of development whose role as models in people's lives.
Considering this potential, Adaro provides support for ponpes and santri to have economic empowerment through PASS.
“The main goal of PASS is to foster entrepreneurial spirit for santri and ponpes so they can live independently," said Okty.
"Especially for santri when they are involved in the society, they are equipped as religious experts as well as having the skill to be a micro and medium entrepreneur,” said Okty.

One of ponpes has been receiving the PASS assistance is Miftahul Ulum in Bangkiling Raya Village, Benua Lawas Sub-district, about45 kilometers from the capital of Tabalong District.
The assistance has been carried out since 2017 with an assessment as the first step to map the condition of Miftahul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, followed by training on strengthening human resources. Then in 2019, they started to work on areas to be used as business places.
Early 2020 prepared business areas have been established. A quail cage with a capacity of 5,000 heads, then area for kelulut bee setups, also a pond containing 15,000 pangasius fish (patin).
The three are potential businesses that can be developed in the area of Miftahul Ulum. Until now, Adaro continues to provide assistance, even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
