Banjarmasin, (Antaranews) - The first day of the World Food Day (HPS) exhibition, Pagatan woven fabric in the Tanah Bumbu stand, sold by many visitors, especially from outside South Kalimantan, who were so interested when seeing it.
"When the exhibition opened on Thursday (10/18), in only 1 hour, 20 sheets were sold and now we don't know how many Pagatan woven fabrics sell well," said Mariana Basry, administrator of the Tanah Bumbu Council for National Handicrafts (Dekranasda) that stand guard at the exhibition stand.
The quite expensive price of Pagatan woven cloth apparently does not make visitors fail to buy. That's because the traditional fabric of the Bugis Pagatan Tribe is indeed unique in its motives with the best quality in its manufacture.
"For super quality sell at Rp800 thousand. While semi silk ranges from Rp300 to Rp350 thousand and cotton material is Rp200 thousand," Nana explained.
The characteristic motives of Pagatan weaving are the wave and the snakehead fish teeth. That is what distinguishes it from weaving from Jepara, Bali or Lombok.
Nana revealed, Pagatan weaving which was hereditary made traditionally using wood weavers, and formerly can only be processed using silk thread, was once a favorite of Bugis nobles.
