Batulicin, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The District Government of Tanah Bumbu, South Kalimantan, offers homesteading or urban gardening as a food security solution for its residents.
Head of Food Crop and Horticulture of the Tanah Bumbu Food Security and Agriculture Office Robby Chandra here on Friday said one of the various alternative to grow food is homesteading by using residential lot to grow food.
"I think utilizing yourn yard by planting various local food plants, such as vegetables, fruit, tubers, nuts and other plants is very easy to do," said Robby.

If you have yard you can use, use it to plant various vegetable plants to meet your kitchen needs.
He said a few weeks ealier the price of chili had increased. To solve problem like this, he suggests people could use their yard to plant chili.
By planting chili in the yard, he said, people can get chili at cheaper price and also meet their daily chili needs.
Planting chili in the yard can also be a fun activity and can be done by all family members. In addition it can be a way to improve air quality and reduce pollution.
He suggested that community could start by preparing the land to be used. The land must have good drainage and sufficient sunlight. The, buy chili seeds according to climate and soil condition in their area.
"The use of residential yard is very good for planting, especially chili. At least it can meet household needs," said Robby.
