Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan (AntaranewsKalsel) - The government of Banjarbaru developing environmentally friendly products by teaching mothers to make handycraft from agricultural waste which are many after harvest.
"We are cooperating with the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) carrying out training on making straw into environmentally friendly products attended by 35 participants from PKK city to villages and GOW (The Women Combined Organization)," said Secretary of the Banjarbaru Environment Agency Rosita here on Monday,
She explained that people are required to contribute to environmental protection and management through governance in accordance with the rules of the environment.
"People should participate actively maintaining and preserving the environment. One of which through a waste management technique by processing into environmentally friendly products," she said.
The products made from straw are flowers, photo frames, tissue box and various other artistic products.
Chairwoman of the PKK Banjarbaru Ririen Nadjmi Adhani welcomed the Environment Agency step. According to her, hay is often used in mixed fodder and mushroom growing media, so it utilization is still not optimal and less-economical.
"We ask not to burn straw waste. It can be utilized as a base material for quite unique and artistic handicrafts and in addition to the high economic value," she said.
