Tanjung, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - PT Adaro Indonesia held a series of activities to commemorate World Environment Day, including by planting tree seedlings around pedestrian Office Wara 73 Tabalong District, South Kalimantan.
Acting Head of Mining Engineering Rizki Kemarajaya, who led the planting of Loa (Ficus Racemosa) tree seedlings, said that the action was Adaro's commitment to the environment.
"Adaro keeps its commitment to protect the environment through innovation and ecological restoration and we have roadmap to net zero emissions so we can be green," Rizki expounded here on Friday (June 28, 2024).
He said Loa seedlings planting was not just ceremonial and the species of tree selected such as Ficus Racemosa have an important role in maintaining ecosystem.

According to HSE Deputy Division Head of Adaro Didik Triwibowo, Loa tree have a strong hydrological function, able to increase and absorb ground water, so that they can become a source of water.
As part of ecological restroration initiative, Adaro also focus on protecting wildlife, especially the bekantan (proboscis monkey) population in the company's reclamation area in collaboration with experts from University of Lambung Mangkurat (ULM) since 2017.
"Two groups of bekantan in Paringin campground area fond of young shoots of sengon and Loa fruit," he added.
Planting Loa was also reason to provide a sustainable source of food for bekantan or proboscis monkeys.
World Environment Day was also filled with knowledge sharing and "eco innovation" session with the theme "Resolving Climate Crisis with Innovation and Principles of Justice" together with working partners, such as SIS, PPA, dan BUMA.
The theme reflects the company's commitment in responding to environmental challanges with sustainable and inclusive approaches.
