Banjarmasin, S Kalimatan (ANTARA) - The City Government of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, continuing its program to alleviate slum areas which recorded covering an area of 380 hectares spread across all sub-districts.
"Indeed the large area is in South and West Banjarmasin," said Head of Banjarmasin Housing and City Residential Areas Chandra here on Tuesday.
The city government targets to eradicate slum areas by about 65 hectares per year since 2022.
"In the last two years, the target has been achieved, thus the total slum area according the latest (government's) decree remains 380 hectares," said Chandra.

Efforts to alleviate slum area continues to be conducted this year, he said, even though it cannot be maximized due to budget refocusing to pay off debts for municipal government activities in 2023.
Chandra expounded that efforts to accelerate slum eradication are in collaboration with the provincial and central government, including in handling unhabitable houses, sanitation, and others.
His office, Chandra said, is tasked with repairing bridge road or better known as footbridge (locally called titian).
Footbridge can only be passed by pedestrian or two-wheeled motorbikes. Most of footbridges are in residential areas on the banks of rivers as connecting roads between houses and generally are of wooden construction.
"We repair it with concrete construction, so it is stronger," he said.
