Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - The office of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) in Papua Province is optimistic that Vice President Ma'ruf Amin's temporary stay in Papua would expedite the revival of the local people's economy.
Chairman of Papua Kadin Ronald Antonio Bonai stated in Jayapura on Tuesday that his side lauded VP Amin's plan to set up a temporary office in Papua, adding that the temporary stay is expected to help the region recover its economy from the effects of COVID-19.
"We would like to extend our highest appreciation to Mr Vice President for his willingness to camp in Papua. Hopefully, by staying in Papua, he will be able to personally heed to the problems faced by local business actors," he stated.
According to Bonai, during the current post-pandemic era, several entrepreneurs are eager to convey their voices to the VP, who also serves as head of the Papua Special Autonomy Development Acceleration Steering Committee (BP3OKP).
He expressed hope that the vice president would absorb the aspirations of local businessmen and help them find solutions to the problems and obstacles they are facing in the hopes of supporting the revival of the people's economy.
Bonai remarked that numerous business actors are seeking greater convenience in the process of acquiring permits, especially those for local people to conduct mining activities.
He said that by enabling and facilitating local people to manage their own mines, the government can stimulate the revival of the people's economy.
"The establishment of newly-formed autonomous regions has further pushed stakeholders to invest greater efforts to boost people's economy in the hopes of elevating the living standard of local communities," he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Derek Hegemur, Caretaker of the Papua Regional Secretary, affirmed that the Papua Provincial Government is ready to welcome the visit of VP Amin, who will set up a temporary office in early September with Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Commander Admiral Yudo Margono and several ministers.
"We will be coordinating with the XVII/Cenderawasih Military Command, Papua Regional Police, and the Papua Special Autonomy Development Acceleration Steering Committee, to ensure that the visit is a success," he stated.
Earlier, on Saturday (August 26), VP Amin explained that his planned temporary stay in Papua would be aimed at being heedful of the aspirations of the local communities and figures to find solutions to problems in the region.
"This time, I will focus on harboring the voices of local champions, including religious leaders, regional governments, women, and others. I will heed their aspirations," Amin remarked.
