Jakarta (ANTARA) - Secretary General at the Indonesian Health Ministry Kunta Wibawa Dasa Nugraha stated that implementation of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is a solution to handle the health service gap for global citizens.
Nugraha has sought active involvement of experts and researchers within the Think 20 (T20) to expand UHC.
"People should have access to quality treatment services that they need regardless of their economic conditions," he said during an event streamed on T20 Indonesia's YouTube channel on Wednesday.
T20 is one of the engagement groups under Indonesia's 2022 G20 Presidency that aims to address various global problems through the application of ideas from scientists and researchers across the world.
The G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.
During the Task Force 6: Putting People at The Center of the Health System Forum, he noted that implementation of the UHC is a solution to handle the health service gap for global citizens.
The topic concerning UHC is entering the intensive discussion stage at the G20 Forum.
Indonesia provides UHC support through the implementation of National Health Insurance (JKN) as an effort to provide comprehensive and just quality health insurance to the people.
JKN ensures that everyone can access quality health service without experiencing financial difficulties, Nugraha stated.
One of the challenges in implementing JKN in Indonesia is the fulfillment of human resources.
To support effective health system security, the Indonesian health minister has established six pillars of health system transformation.
These six pillars comprise primary service transformation, secondary service transformation, health service system transformation, health financing system transformation, health human resources transformation, and health technology transformation.
Nugraha believes that policy implementation conducted by the ministry thus far will place the health system in a better position for the people.
Indonesia continues to mobilize resources that it needs, such as human resources and finance, to strengthen primary health service as a foundation of the health system.
Quality health service access through JKN ensures better involvement with the government and private sector, so that collective cooperation can be established to bolster global health architecture through health system resilience, he remarked.
The UHC program plays a major role in handling the pandemic. Indonesia has a strong people's health foundation, with 10,205 public health centers (puskesmas) that protect public health during the pandemic, Nugraha noted.
The UHC program also eliminates the people's financial hurdles in accessing comprehensive and quality health service.
Now and in the future, the UHC continues to be bolstered, expanded, and directed toward the three main indicators of access, coverage, and financial protection for members.
